PRACTICAL WORKFLOW / INVOICEFORGE
A client paid part of an invoice. What next?
For freelance designers, writers and consultants managing staged payments.
Confirm the money received
Check settled receipts in your payment provider or bank records. A client saying they paid is a useful lead, but it is not a confirmed receipt.
Recalculate the outstanding balance
Fictional example: $120 invoiced minus a confirmed $50 payment leaves $70. A second confirmed $50 payment leaves $20. Keep the currency and invoice reference with the record.
Write a precise follow-up
Example: “Thanks for your payment toward invoice IF-104. My records show $100 received against the $120 invoice, leaving $20 outstanding. Could you confirm the expected payment date?” Check the facts and your agreed terms before sending.
Choose the next review date
Record the message and a sensible review date. Update the balance when another payment settles. Save a backup after changing records.
Try the workflow with a fictional example.
InvoiceForge helps you keep the balance and next action together. It does not collect money, verify bank receipts or send messages automatically.
